Bullying on Social Media - Yolanda Ramadhan (1788203052)

Social media is an online media that users can participate in, share, and create content both content and opinion that can be used throughout the world and all walks of life. Social media has also become a tool that is in great demand and is used in the present era. Social media is a term used to describe interactions that occur between groups or individuals, such as sharing, and exchanging ideas through the internet or other virtual communities.
As a result, social media has become an important aspect of their lives. Social media has changed the way they interact with parents, and their peers. Besides that, social media has also had a positive and negative impact on their lives. On the positive side, social media can act as a very valuable and useful tool for teenagers. This social media can help them to market their skills and look for business opportunities on the internet. In addition, social networking sites can also be used to share positive things with everyone.
However, the downside is the internet is full of a number of risks associated with online crime. An example is Cyber bullying, which is the type of bullying that is carried out using electronic technology. These cyber bullying actors use social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook as a place to hide behind the anonymity provided by the internet to carry out these despicable actions.
Bully is an action or behavior that aims to hurt and disturb others by using the power possessed by the perpetrator. The purpose or motive behind the actions of oppressors usually comes from feelings of insecurity in themselves. Bully is a harsh treatment done physically, verbally through someone's virtual and emotional world that is done to gain power, seek sensation, or even want to get rid of the person (victim). Examples of physical bullying are kicking, punching, hitting, etc. This type of bullying is done on the limbs. An example of verbal bullying is making a nickname that offends the victim. Usually, this nickname is made because of race, religion, economic status, etc. Examples of bullying through cyberspace (cyber) are through the internet by sending images, sms, chat, social networks like twitter, facebook, etc. The last example of the type of bullying is emotional bullying, namely by disseminating stories that are not (slander), uncovering the secrets of the victim, etc.
There are many factors that cause bullying, namely from the school environment, home environment and community. From the school environment, can be seen from the way the victim gets along. Disliked by school friends, kept away and ostracized. This is caused because the victim may be difficult to socialize (socialize) or from friends who do not like the victim. From the home environment, it can be seen that he does not have friends to play and the surrounding neighbors consider him strange. From a community, it can be seen from the way they interact with the victim. Either speaking harshly, thinking of him as a babu who is usually told to do it, or from the way they show their attitude to the victim to others.
The effect of bullying has been fatal. For people who are intimidated (victim), he will suffer from severe stress and depression and if the perpetrator intimidates him more severely, he will try to commit suicide. This is related to his health problems. He may not eat all day, and have a more severe disease than expected. For someone who intimidates (the culprit), he or she will be more easily caught up in social relationships (using illegal drugs), easily getting into trouble at school and easily being expelled from school. Efforts can be made by several parties around victims such as parents, schools (teachers and principals), people who are trusted by victims (friends). Parents can tighten the security of their children by watching their children so that something unexpected is not happening. Schools can hold special programs for students who have problems. In addition to being able to provide programs, schools can make regulations more stringent, such as if there is persecution in the school, will be subject to sanctions and be punished.
There are several things that the victim must remember, that he is not alone. It is not entirely his fault and there is nothing to suppress, talk to people he trusts (friends). This is the most important thing that do not hurt yourself even though no matter how stressful or depressed, do not repress people who oppress him, do not let the oppressive win and do what he likes to do. Programs that can be implemented and held are anti-bullying, namely prevention of the suppression of children in schools and in the surrounding environment. This program has been implemented in several countries. Presumably, more than 50% of students do not oppress their friends after participating in the anti-bullying program. This program is an activity that makes one child with another child mingle. So, let's carry out an anti-bullying program to reduce the persecution of minors!
Research from the Boston Children's Hospital reveals that the effects of bullying can last longer, even years, on the mental and physical victims of bullying. Research has revealed that bullying can have a negative impact on children's health. The actions of bullying have also been linked to mental and physical health which continues to decline. Children who are victims of bullying will be more prone to depression and low self-esteem. In addition to, the study also found that the brain capacity of children affected by bullying will decrease. This certainly has a big impact on children's learning achievements in school.
Research shows that bullying cases in schools occur because of lack of supervision at rest, regulations on bullying cases are not consistently enforced and understanding or different perceptions between teachers and students in the face of bullying habits. Related to this, schools need to intensify supervision and sanctions appropriately so that cases like this do not happen again and ensure a sense of security for other children. The results of the study state that children who grow up in a good environment will grow into a stable, optimistic and emotional generation. This means that the behavior of parents and family will automatically shape the personality and mentality of the child and the surrounding environment also influence it. If children get enough protection and attention from the closest people, children will be able to face threats from outside optimistically.
Therefore, the phenomenon of bullying should be a concern. In an effort to prevent bullying, it is necessary to pay attention from family and related parties, which in this case is the school. Because it has many psychiatric effects, ranging from emotions, physical, academic, self-confidence, emotional behavior, psychotic behavior, even to suicide, cases of violence among adolescents must be handled seriously involving the school, parents and the community. Based on the above explanation, it becomes increasingly clear that social media has become an important part of people's lives. This social networking site has a positive impact on them to become more professional. However, social media can also have a negative effect, which is to make teenagers lazy and incompetent. Therefore, as a teenager it is very important to be careful and restraint when dealing with social media.
