IMPACT OF SOCIAL MEDIA FOR YOUTH LIFE - MAYA YOLANDA (1788203019)

Social media is a term used to describe interactions that occur between groups or individuals, such as sharing, and exchanging ideas through the internet or other virtual communities. This social network or also called social media has a significant impact on the lives of youths. This is because nowadays, children have grown up surrounded by mobile devices and interactive social networking sites, such as Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and many other social media applications. As a result, social media has become an important aspect of youth life. Social media has changed the way teens interact with parents and peers. Besides that, social media has also had a positive and negative impact on teenagers' lives. There are six impacts that are caused by social media, both negative and positive impacts.
First, as a medium for disseminating information. Up to date information is very easy to spread through social networking sites. Only within a few minutes after the event, someone can enjoy the information. So that it does not become someone who missed the news and still knows all the news that is being discussed.
Second, children and youth can learn to develop technical and social skills that are very much needed in the digital age as they are today. Children and adolescents will learn how to adapt, socialize with the public and manage friendship networks. Children and youth will be more easily friends with other people around the world, even though most of them have never met them directly. So that children and youth will be motivated to learn to develop themselves through friends who are met online, because here children and youth can interact and receive feedback from each other.
Third, as a media campaign in business. This allows small entrepreneurs to promote products and services without spending a lot of money. Entrepreneurs can sell merchandise only with an online selling system, promoting online on social media, so the sales system will feel more effective and efficient.
Fourth, pornography. Pornography is a negative impact that can be caused by social media. The presumption that says that the internet is synonymous with pornography is indeed not wrong. With the ability to convey information that the internet has, pornography is rampant. To anticipate this, browser manufacturers complete their programs with the ability to choose the type of home page that can be accessed. On the internet there are pornographic images and violence that can lead to encouragement for someone to act criminal.
Fifth, children and youths become lazy learning to communicate in the real world. The level of understanding of the language became disturbed. If children communicate too much in cyberspace, then the knowledge of the ins and outs of communicating in real life, such as body language and tone of voice, becomes reduced. And always shorten the language so it is not uncommon for children and youths to have difficulty communicating formally in real life.
Sixth, allowing to be an individualist. This is the thing that is often seen around us, because there are many people who are absorbed in their gadgets. If someone too enjoys the existence of this social media, the individualist nature will gradually emerge. So that this person enjoys his own existence even when meeting many people. And that results in the destruction of social relations with people around.
Based on the above explanation, it becomes increasingly clear that social media has become an important part of people's lives. This social networking site has a positive impact on them to become more professional. However, social media can also have a negative effect, which is to make teenagers lazy and incompetent. Therefore, as a teenager it is very important to be careful and restraint when dealing with social media. And must be a smart user of social media.
